Who we are…
Welcome to Ember & Ink, the South Bay’s very first brick-and-mortar romance bookstore, where love stories aren’t just on the shelves… they’re in the air. This women-owned small business is here to spark passions for reading (for all ages!), build a vibrant and inclusive community, and add just the right amount of swooning and spice.
Stop by for a cozy read and a cup of coffee, or turn up the fun at one of our craft nights or bookclub events. Whether you’re looking to fall in love with a new book, reconnect with friends, or hear your favorite author tell their story firsthand, Ember & Ink is your haven for happily-ever-after.
Kristine Conway
At a very young age Kristine found a love for reading after her grandmother introduced her to the book “Heidi”. Beyond her love for reading, she trained for many years in dance and theatre. Although she did not end up as a backup dancer for a 90’s pop band, or land a movie role outside of “school girl #4”, she took away a love of storytelling through all creative means.
Kristine earned a degree in Psychology, moved to South Bay, and ended up in sales, before landing the prestigious role of mom and full-time volunteer. All of the above experiences have shaped her skillset to take on the newest role, Romance Bookstore Owner. When she is not working in the store, Kristine can be found hanging with her husband and 2 kids, releasing endorphins in a barre class, drinking any sort of coffee beverage, or trying to find homes for stray dogs.

Eliza Lane
Born and raised in the South Bay, Eliza has spent the past 20 years serving her community as an educator, dedicated volunteer and writer. Her love of books began at an early age, when bedtimes were no match for the irresistible pull of “just one more chapter.” That passion only deepened into adulthood, as she became immersed in Jane Austen’s world of Regency romance and Charlotte Brontë’s vivid portrayals of passion and heartbreak.
She went on to earn a BA in English Literature and a Master’s degree in English Education, further exploring the sense of escape and connection that books provide. Today, Eliza is an English professor and lives in Redondo Beach with her husband and daughter, who has already inherited her love of book lights at bedtime.
